Please Save the Date … I am inviting you all (and your families) to my place for a picnic celebration of a special season of music making.

• Date: Sunday, June 10th …. 3pm – till.
• Where:  Mark’s Place … on the road to Fremont (Rte 21), Green Ranch on left (7675) …. before St Mary’s Cemetery.
• What to Bring:  Ill supply the basics (burgers, drinks, salad, etc.).  So, you dont need to bring anything.  However, any kind of dish to pass, salad or dessert would be deliciously welcome, i’m sure.  Again, not necessary.
• Also, If You Can… It would be helpful if you could bring lawn chairs. (I have some but, Single Guy = Lack of Seating)
• Spouses/Significant Others?:  In a word.  Absolutely!
• Kids? Really? :  Yes, sure.  Ill put out some lawn games and feed the little monsters too.  This is a celebration after all.
• Former members? : Absolutely.  I will try to reach as many as I can.  But, feel free to extend the invitation\
• Is this a Membership Meeting?:  I dont really know for sure.  The primary purpose is to gather, celebrate and enjoy each other’s company. It may be efficient to hold a short meeting, but I’ll leave that to the Officers to decide.

I will be offering an introduction to music-reading at the Y on Tuesday, May 15 from 5:00-6:30 p.m.  The idea is to introduce the basics of rhythm, reading treble and bass clefs, and basic meters.  If you have any Community Chorus members who are in the “I’ve always wanted to learn to read music” camp, would you mind passing this information along to them?

Saturday, May 19th at 7:00 pm, First Congregational United Church of Christ in Corning, “American Originals: Music of Bernstein, Copeland and Others” Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms”, Copeland’s “In the Beginning” and more.

I don’t know if anyone else is interested in going but I thought we might post it on an FYI bases.  Anyone interested in carpooling let’s meet in Lowe’s Parking Lot at 5:45?  If people want to contact me for questions or just to express interest in going and/or car pooling you can certainly use my email.

from Adam  - I just want to thank and congratulate you once again.  Thank you for hiring me as your tenor soloist in Messiah—the experience was a pure joy!  And congratulations on a fine performance yesterday.  To perform Handel’s unparalleled masterwork at the onset of Holy Week was indeed a very special occasion.  I believe so strongly in the importance of what you and the Orpheus Chorale are doing: bringing high-quality performances of choral art music to a community that otherwise would not have access to it.  This mission is vital in this place and in this time.  I hope you and your singers were gratified by the overwhelmingly positive response of yesterday’s audience—your work is worth the sacrifice required!  Please extend my sincere thanks and congratulations to the members of the Chorale.

Yesterday I stood before a strong, attentive, professional, dignified, proud, and confident group of singers who projected deep sadness, anger, pathos, contemplation and sheer joy.   You painted a picture that is now emblazoned on the musical and spiritual memories of the many people who were fortunate to be present at that church yesterday.

Yes, we peaked yesterday.  I could take the brisk tempos I wanted, you burst through those runs, and I felt as though you simply could not wait to sing the next piece and to tell this meaningful story.  Your eyes told our audience “oh yeah .. ya think that was good? wait till you hear this.”   I had the sense that you feared nothing and in the most glorious way.  I knew very early that we were red hot with a fire that only this piece can generate.  You “got it”, understood it, and were anxious to communicate it.

I hope that each and every one of you are standing proud today.    For me….. well, I was one pants-losing bundle of pride.

Ya Know .. we really need to get together and celebrate.. and so, I am beginning to plan a picnic at my house later this spring.  In addition to an event where we are encouraged to gloat and wallow in success, I would love for us to get to finally share some purely social time together. When I have real details, I will send them to you.

• Work your 16th note runs!
• Anticipate tempos to start .. but Watch carefully (memorize your starting line on pieces where you section starts a piece)
• I like the “covered” sound of Gawd and Awmen .. vertical mouth position.
• Dont get over ambitious on sustained comfortable notes.. that is where i here individual voice emerge.
• MILITARY TYPE STRICT ADHERENCE to the PULSE (TEMPO) .. is essential .. keep the beat with your toes in your shoes if you have to. LISTEN and FEEL always.
• CRISP!!!! IS THE WATCHWORD!

Im soooooooo excited about this weekend …. hope you are too.  I am proud of everyone.
